Anatomic Pathology: The branch of pathology that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the gross and microscopic examination of cells and tissues.
Anesthesiology: Founded in 1937, the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine was the first anesthesia residency program in the Southeast. Today, the Department provides inpatient and outpatient services to people of all ages, at both MCGHealth Medical Center and MCGHealth Children's Medical Center.

In 2002, the Department of Anesthesiology expanded to include Perioperative Medicine services, which include intensive care, pain management, pediatrics and research.

In the MCGHealth Surgical ICU, we have board-certified critical care specialists providing the highest quality of professional intensive care available in this area. This team also provides the patient with the most excellent care for cardiothoracic anesthesia needs at MCGHealth. Cardiac Electrophysiology: Cardiac electrophysiology is the science of the electric functioning of the heart. It is concerned with the normal and abnormal transmission of impulses from the cardiac pacemaker and its influence on contraction.
Cardiology: The Department of Cardiology offers state-of-the-art, comprehensive cardiac care. We work to address the special needs of adult patients with congenital heart defects as well as those requiring cardiac surgery. Our surgical specialties include valve replacement and coronary artery bypass.

Patients can rest comfortably knowing they have 24-hour-a-day, in-house physician supervised care to ensure prompt response to any cardiac emergency, including 24-hour access to a cardiac catheterization lab.

Faculty maintain an active Coronary Care Unit, Cardiac Step Down Facility, and two Cardiac Telemetry Wards. The Telemetry and Step Down Units are jointly administered with Cardiothoracic Surgery. Clinical Neurophysiology: A medical speciality that studies the central and peripheral nervous systems through the recording of bioelectrical activity, whether spontaneous or stimulated.
Critical Care Medicine: Intensive care medicine or critical care medicine is concerned with providing greater than ordinary medical care and observation to people in a critical or unstable condition.
Cytopathology: A branch of pathology that studies and diagnoses diseases on the cellular level. The most common use of cytopathology is the Pap smear, used to detect cervical cancer at an early treatable stage
Dermatology: Physicians in the Department of Dermatology diagnose and treat minor as well as difficult diseases of the skin, hair and nails in both adults and children. This includes skin tumors, psoriasis, acne, and severe atopic dermatitis. Our team has special expertise in the treatment of blistering diseases, cutaneous allergy, connective tissues diseases, fungal disease, vasculitis and skin cancer. Diagnostic Radiology: The Department of Diagnostic Radiology offers the latest technology and expertise in diagnostic imaging. Diagnostic radiology techniques are generally non-invasive, meaning the body is not entered with any equipment or cut open for imaging. However, certain procedures do combine diagnostic radiology techniques with minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat a condition. In addition, diagnostic radiology is often used to assist during minimally invasive surgery. Services include Arteriogram (Angiogram), Barium X-ray (Upper and Lower GI), CT scans, Fluoroscopy, Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP), MRI, Mammogram, Ultrasound, X-ray and nuclear medicine.

Electrodiagnostic Medicine: Electrodiagnostic medicine uses EMG (electromyogram) and nerve conduction studies to test muscles and nerves when patients have problems with numbness, tingling, pain, weakness and muscle cramping.
Emergency Medicine: The Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by board certified or residency trained emergency medicine physicians. The Emergency Department houses a trauma resuscitation area in addition to rooms designated for observation, treatment and examination, casting, dental services, ear, nose and throat treatment, decontamination shelter.

Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery: Physicians in the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery are specialists in plastic surgery of the face, both cosmetic and reconstructive. Pediatric Critical Care: MCG Health System's pediatric trauma team specializes in the treatment of traumatic, critical care injuries 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Designated in 1981 as Georgia's first Level I trauma center, MCG also houses a pediatric trauma center located in the Children's Medical Center. Pediatric Emergency Medicine: The Pediatric Emergency Department of the MCG Children's Medical Center is adjacent to the main Emergency Department. The MCG Children's Medical Center is the region's only pediatric tertiary care referral hospital and our physicians include subspecialists in all areas of pediatrics.
